the Hubei provincial museum. I have never seen so much construction going on
anywhere in my life—even copared to Abu Dhabi! Everywhere you looked they were
tearing down old 3 story buildings and replacing them with complexes of 50
story buildings. The city is about 9 million people—larger than almost all US
cities, yet ...
... under control! In the afternoon we met up with Chris, Jin's cousin, whom many of you met while he was getting a master's degree in the US. He's now back in China and doing an internship in Wuhan at China Construction Bank.
Our stay in Wuhan was brief but it was great to see Chris, tour the campus of Wuhan University, and look around another major Chinese city!
... was definitely smog. By mid-day, we were able to catch glimpses of the sun trying to break through the dense smog layer. As the day wore on, I could begin to feel my head becoming more cloudy from breathing in the particles. I was amazed at how people could live in a city such as Yueyang and not be able to see the sun on an average day. Yueyang is a relatively small (population of 3 million) port city located between Wuhan and Chongqing on the Yangtze. ...
... with more floors - we are on floor 5 with a great room, lots of space, and our own balcony. Unpacked (yeah - 5 nights without packing and unpacking) and explored around the boat. Had a drink in the bar (yeah, gin and tonic!) with some of our group, who are, we find, quite companionable. Then had a shower and changed for dinner, which was a buffet. Since it had a great salad bar, we mostly all filled up on salad and soup, but did sample the duck, chicken ...
