Suzhou is famed for its private gardens, canals and silk and is frequently compared with Venice as 42% of the area of the city is covered by water. Suzhou is in the middle of the Yangtze Delta. The city is divided by the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal which is man made and runs from north to South of the country and is famous for the canals, stone bridges, pagodas and meticulously designed gardens.
