    ... fast here in China.

    Getting around

There are many taxis, motorbike taxis and tricycles. However, they will often try to overcharge you if they know you are not a native of China, or Beihai. Haggling is customary, so do not be afraid to ask for a lower rate. Getting a taxi ride from the Shangri-La hotel to the train station is about 20 RMB. Taxis should use a meter; there is a surcharge of 1 to be paid in addition to the fare shown on the meter.

... especially the old people, tell the history of their hard life with not too much laughter as life never was too easy for so many of them. They are kind, nice and hardworking people. But this kindness doesn’t feel like a gentle kindness but rough, tough and yet, honest, authentic. They take care of each other and expect to be taken care of also. Their minds are very tribal minds with strong Confusions values. They will go long way to do things for family and friends ...

... and no-one could tell us where it was going despite having a ticket saying Nanning. Fortunately, just over 4 hours later we arrived at the Vietnam, China border and then spent 2 hours leaving Vietnam and checking into China. Another 4 hours and we pulled into Nanning.

We managed to find our way to the train station and after a long queue through security and an even longer queue at the ticket office we were eventual told all trains to Guilin were fully ...
