      ... therefore it's inhabitants must be. Ms Liang and Mr Yao said to me ages ago "London people, dress smartly, they're rich, nice". I just nodded along. It's the same with this over-used term "cultural difference". A host family can't just be a horrible family, the reason you don't get on with them isn't because of personality clashes, it's because of "cultural differences".

They were in a separate car, but after driving for a couple of hours, we all stopped at a service station which had the biggest number of toilets I've ever seen anywhere and they were surprisingly clean and unsmelly.       ... we went around grey concrete huts looking at really bog standard pieces of nothing in particular. This was their "Art Festival". I liked 2 of the huts, 1 with children who were just lovely and had drawn lots of pictures of Mr Bean, and a calligraphy hut where this old smiley man wrote something nice for you if you came to where he was standing, and you could take it home. The other huts had no info next to the items they were exhibiting, and actually not that much stuff in them. ...

      ... of something, then the groom gave a speech and then Mr Yao gave a speech. Then they left the room, the lights came back on, and the eating started. I had found out from somewhere/someone (probably Ms Liang) that there is no dancing at Chinese weddings, just a lot of eating and drinking. So I ate. The food just didn't stop appearing.
