      ... very glad to have stopped at this lovely port town. We climbed the thousand-odd steps to the Venetian castle complex above the city. The Venetians appear to have had a pretty decent idea of castle building. A walk through the bougainvillea lined old town had Laura in love with the place and the jewelry shops. We did have to make a move, as we headed to Epidaurus that evening.

      ... Shameful. We stopped in Sparta on our way out of town and explored the completely abandoned site a bit. The only souls in the area were a handful of Greek construction workers.
