... it had been, my impression of the place would be terribly negative. I had a
generally nice experience the last time I was here, though, so do have positive
memories of Venice. While these three days were pretty much of a washout I do
hope to return again to La Serenisima at some time in the future, preferably in
the spring months which have neither the worst of the summer crowds nor the bad
weather and high water of the winter.

... here we wandered for about 20 minutes through a lot of alleys and a couple of squares to get to Campo Santa Margherita. This is the largest square outside San Marco and supposed to be popular with locals. At lunch time it only had tourists but it was worth seeing a different style of square.

I always take that as not such a great sign. The next place where they had outdoor seating was packed and Jeff thought the heaters would keep him warm.
