Unlike Mykonos, Naxos's main city is built into a hill and therefore levels are added to the maze of marshmallow houses with blue doors. The town is a maze, and finding your way around is a fun game. Nathan and I constantly happened upon alleyways that we thought could only be dead ends, only to discover that they were actually main streets leading to more cute souvenir shops, artists studios, hotels and locals homes. ... and set a direct course for Finikas. This is a small fishing village on the southeastern side of Siros which in addition to a small harbor for fishing and pleasure boats also has a fair seized naval base/harbor which housed one rather dilapidated frigate (not a great confidence builder for the Greek navy)! The outside quay of the fishing harbor provided very good anchorage as long as one is careful to " keep of the quay" to prevent damage ...

... and apparently had the same idea. During our passage we kept looking behind us to make sure that BS was OK. Bas and Margreet had decided to pull out there genoa and were motor sailing! They had called ahead to the little yacht harbor in the town of Naousis and got the last available mooring spot.

Once we safely anchored in the protected bay it was difficult to belief how rough the weather had been ...

... straight out of the movies. The winding passages are paved with stones with a whitewashed grout sealing them together. We darted in and out of boutiques shopping for nothing in particular. The store owners and employees have it made. When they are not relaxing and enjoying the island music and warm breeze, they stand in the narrow doorways talking with each other to pass the time. They appear relaxed and free of stress, and I hate them for that.
