On Saturday we went for another beautiful morning walk in the country before being picked up by my brother-in-law to go to Maribor. It was a very pretty and slightly sketchy drive on fairly narrow Slovenian roads but we got there in one piece. We walked to the town square and checked out a really neat market with local vendors selling their art, food and clothing etc. Maribor is filled with old buildings that have many stories to tell, and I had great fun exploring ...

... salamanders, Waitomo has glow worms therefore both equally famous in their own right! Next stop was Lake Bled via the A1 and a lot of traffic going very fast! We compromise on Mauricio again being our tour guide for the morning (he has changed his work arrangements to accommodate us) and we will go to Trieste. Both Bruno and Etsia will be working in Trieste anyway. We bid our farewells to all the family we will not see tomorrow and are very grateful for having been made so welcome, but sad that we also have to move on. What a great time we have had in Cividale! How lucky we ...

Slovene Karst and Seaside

... summer afternoon.

Our last stop was in Piran, a picturesque seaside town on the Adriatic coast. Amazingly, it is not overrun with tourists and its easy to get a nice spot by the water. Starving, I picked up a delicious cheese-filled burek from a small bakery - burek is one of the most common street food in Slovenia originating from Turkey. Hunger needs met, I moved on to being incredibly happy sitting there by ...
