... the disaster, you could tell it meant a lot to the guy to show us around his town with the usual boundless Japanese enthusiasm it was a very personal account of the disaster which I felt very lucky to have experienced. WE DID: - got a bus from Tsuruoka to the summit of Mount Haguro, the first of the 3 mountains that make up Dewa-sanzan it symbolises (re)birth - managed to find our lodgings, a temple on the top of the mountain, and leave our rucksacks - trekked down the 2446 steps to the bottom of the mountain ready to go back to the top again later! - visited the Ideha museum to learn a bit more about Dewa-sanzan and its religious ...

... wandered to a very busy street which seemed like the Tokyo equivalent of the Brighton Lanes. Loads of small shops were selling colourful and wonderful souvenirs and clothing. They had a few clothes which took Nicole's fancy and even a Batman mask which I managed to resist buying. We had lunch here at a gluten-free crepe cafe.
