Day 13
Travelling day to Guiyang today. As normal we spent the day organising ourselves and relaxing before we headed to the train station at 4:30pm.For tea we had McDonalds. It was very much appreciated and was a mahoosive change from all the Chinese food we have been eating.
The train station we had arrived at for our sleeper train was very swish indeed. It was clearly brand new and not quite established as a hustle and bustle place we are used to at train ...

... Didi and granddaughter Mengya drove us to a historic town Qingyan. In our previous time in Guiyang we visited this former Ming-era military outpost a couple of times. Qingyan dates back to 1378 and was once a traffic between southwest provinces.

In 1995 the town with its winding, smooth stone-flagged streets and partially restored city walls was a quiet haven for us to wander imagining what life would have been like.

... we noticed was that the gates have changed.


The mail centre was no longer there but what was still there and strongly present were the beautiful plain trees that lined the entrance walkway.



The library was still in place but not the main office. It had been pulled down and replaced.

Through a bit of luck we met up with one of Sam's post grad students. He has been in Montreal ...

... swooped in and out of lanes to deliver us a terminal 2 ahead of time and in a relaxed frame of mind. Fifty minutes driving for 90Yuan (Y) or about $15.


Pat remarked how much things have changed when she handed her passport over to the airline worker and immediately received our boarding passes. All done online from our hotel bedroom in Wuhan.
