... a load of beggars (including monk beggars) and pushy taxi-van drivers and for the first time ever in China, I didn't feel safe, there was just so many poor people around all begging for money! Tonight we were told that the restaurant we were going to was mainly for Chinese and that Europeans wouldn't like the smokey atmosphere, so it was normal for them to hire a private room for us. In our case we had 13 crammed round a table and each of us had an ashtray alongside our normal rice bowl, soup bowl etc!
On thinking about it we think it's mainly men who smoke..

It even got worse as a women occupied the toilet for a long time and nearly exploded in there, covered all the floor with **** and left a horrible smell, so that small kids started to cry when their parents brought them to the toilet because of that smell.
Not only that I had to stand for hours, it was also impossible to get hot water for my noodles, so I just had one pack of them within the 20 hours ride.

Arrived in Baise City at about 5pm and picked up by the Foreign Affairs Officer (FAO). We went directly to the school and my apartment where I found out I have FOUR FAOs!! They took great pride showing me round the apartment and were full of smiles. I got 1/2 hour to get ready for dinner. It turned out to be a private dinner with the senior FAO and all his family.
