The first stop is a rural village of Dong He. Old Taiwanese traditions are rich in this small town. Besides the students who mostly where in elementary school, a group of teenager youths and young adults also provided us hospitality, assistance, and a few unexpected adventures. ... ice cream store which is a converted eye hospital from the pre WWII Japanese era was only 2 blocks from the bus station. It is also a very upscale Japanese style gift shop. The ice cream was great.
We bought fried dumplings and a combination dinner with grilled chicken, a fried egg, vegetables and rice for our late evening train ride to Hualien.

... traveled to Tibet during the Tang dynasty in 700 A.D. to bring back and translated Buddhist sacred texts. Even with the first boat, the hoard was already there. We continued to walk uphill to the main temple and left the crowd behind after 2 minutes. The next temple has a far better view, only about 10 people on the whole grounds and we got to ring the giant bell.
