... br>
So far, our trip in the south has far exceeded our expectations in everything but the food. The lunch and dinner were both less appetizing than the food in Beijing. Perhaps it’s because it was the fourth day in a row with just Chinese food. XO, the downtown GR Chinese restaurant will be off the rotation for a while when we get home!

A couple of random Suzhou notes:

Chinese people don’t generally care ...
Suzhou, Jiangsu, China dabrander... outside of his small one room home having a morning stretch or brushing his teeth. His home is no larger than a small single-car garage and is situated on the edge of the road. We peer through the window of his home as we pedal by. Inside is a sleeping cot, a small table, a hot plate, and some shelving on the wall lined with canned food. I wonder about the stories this old man must have, and how, if at all, his ...
Suzhou, Jiangsu, China loisal99... cross and a countdown in green focuses any dithery mind on reaching the other side in time.

This all sounds good in theory but the practice is a bit more hair-raising. The bikes, scooters and rickshaws come in hoards and don’t seem to have to obey the lights so it’s a bit like a game of dodgems but against the clock.. The worst ones are the electric scooters which sneak up silently behind you and then “Beep beep ...
Suzhou, Jiangsu, China travellin.light... pretty relaxed time. I now wonder how we manage to wolf down our lunches in Canada. When I come back to Canada having two hour lunches is going to one of the things I'm really going to miss.

At 1:30, it's back to class. School ends at 3:25pm. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we do clubs with the students. Right now I'm doing a card playing club and Lois has a drama club.

The students here are pretty awesome to teach. There are zero discipline ...
Suzhou, Jiangsu, China loisal99... all four people pushed there way in and we were all packed in like sardines. At the 4th floor they all exited and I was alone, chuckling at what had just happened.

At 1pm our ride arrived. Willa, a teaching assistant who spoke very good English, as well as the driver (an older gentleman who spoke no English) loaded us onto a 15 passenger van and we were off. The ride to Suzhou was about 2 hours. Willa was fantastic and answered all of our questions. She got on fabulously ...
Suzhou, Jiangsu, China loisal99... hi** popula** sind. Suzhou, Jiangsu, China nax... a remarkable structure. On reflection, we perhaps left Suzhou a little disappointed, but were fuelled by the excitemet of the bright lights of Shanghai... Hope you all enjoyed Rob's geeky summary of the statistics of Suzhou, the basic story here is that it was cold and boring. The Silk Museum wasn't that 'pleasant' an afternoon as it was very cold and very Chinese. There was one quite interesting looking ...
Suzhou, China kimandrob... was a bit too 'posh' for me and the music was not doing it for me at all so I left after one drink. Adrian was doing his thing with his mates and Elin was not there as she was ill so I just bailed out, I was too tired for a night out anyway. I got back to hostel around 3.30am and saw some of the Mexico vs Argentina match before flaking out around 4am. What a first day, long tiring but good fun. It's been good chilling with Paul, just someone from back home, well nearly!
Suzhou, China harvimalhi... I can say about the gardens - only pictures will do them justice. I'll post some when I have access to a computer with a USB port. Suzhou also has a zoo, though this felt more like an animal concentration camp. The spaces were cramped and dirty and zoo-goers were not shy about shouting or throwing food at the animals. I don't know if I feel more sorry for the monkeys in the cages or the ones dragged around by chains. Maybe I won't eat monkey after all.
Suzhou, China waynekreger... quand les collections seront revenues. Ah ah !
