Daejeon and Geumsan

... After exploring the ginseng market, we took a bus back to Daejeon for the night. We had an uneventful morning and sat in the hotel coffee shop drinking entirely too expensive coffee to relax before catching the train down to Busan. In Busan our hostel host asked why we would have gone to Daejeon, and in hindsight I agree, it wasn't really a huge tourist spot, but the hotel was nice and the ginseng was great!<br>

... in a particular significant position on the table. a ritual is held with all the males in the family involving a series of bowing and a simulation of the spirit consuming parts of the meal. finally the lights are turned off and everyone steps away to allow the spirit to comsume the meal and leave in peace. the ceremony itself is then over and the rest of the night is spend eating, drinking and playing games. fun times! we played a korean game called ...

The last Baekje capital

No, didn't think so. And now for something, mercifully, not related to Camp Korea. · Good News. Bad News The good news - Travelpod is going to feature one of our pictures from our trip. Hooray. The Deed Is Done

... the other day has been uploaded to the Camp Korea website for all to view. It's an 11 minute plus feast for the eyes, but beware - you're likely to cringe so much that you may permanently disfigure your facial muscles. The link to the website changes frequently so I've decided to upload the whole video here (sorry Travelpod) instead of sending you to the CK website where it is housed. So click to the right for the video (you'll need a quick ...

A strange Christmas

... Korea. Thanks. · Sweet Timing is indeed everything. Yesterday, 4pm Christmas Eve, Meg took delivery of a parcel from Canada, a parcel we now know contained a board-game and a few home-baked Christmas goodies. Meg proclaimed Christmas isn't the same without home-baked Christmas goodies so the timing was perfect. Now, if we could just organize getting some snow here. · Get Out We're too busy. We arrived here in the dorm ...

... be working in CK and not working in the dorms of Hallym University, Chun cheon, our usuall stomping ground. Seemingly the consistently bad cafeteria food served in Hallym and the less that ideal dorm conditions (neither of which we ever found a problem with by the way) neccessiated a change to a different location... and so with that said here we are in CK Jochiwon. New role, new location. We are a little bit sad that we're not going back to ...

I'm a BLACK BELT!

... gymnasium. It was freezing cold and the day involved a lot of waiting around. People were taking either their first (il dahn), second (e dahn) or third (sam dahn) black belt. Each level tested the same techniques but in elevated levels. The third level ones were amazing but after that most people lost interest after that. The first level ones were mostly kids starting at the age 5 ending at age of 40. I was the only female my age and the only westerner. I sat for 3.5 hours ...

Temple Stay

... they do. The kids only mention three things: deokguk, money and no school. So to understand it more, I decided to stay in a temple for the holiday. In Korea for both Chuseok and Solnal you are expected if not demanded to visit your family. Since most Koreans live in Korea this isn't difficult traveling wise. However since a lot of people don't live in their hometowns, it is a mass exodus to small towns through out Korea. This is a serious issue since 25 ...
