... lush a bit like Byron hinterland. Then the surf beaches and rock formations reminded me a little of point perry near Coolum. Nice! Of course this place has a style all its own we're in Japan! :) Very excited to be here. Destination: Shimoda and our home for 3 nights at Shirahama beach. It's a little surfie town that looks straight out of the seventies. Our plan is to relax after the big city. We're all glad to be here. Only drawback is the rain. We're hoping for some fine ...

We are excited to be in Kyoto now. Kyoto used to be Japan's capital ( for over a thousand years) before Tokyo became capital in 1869. So there is so much culture and history here. Fuji looks exactly like the Alps (at least the way they looked when I spent several days in the rain in Salzburg). The company found a nearby lake and arranged for ...

We had a western breakfast at the Japanese hotel. They should stick to Japanese food. We started the day visiting a traditional Japanese woodworking factory and had a demonstration of how different types of wood are glued together and then cut paper thin with what must be an extraordinarily sharp plane. He claims he can cut a hundred slices from a 4 inch piece. They can also make ultra delicate inlay pictures. He also make ...

... day out in the sun and we decide to forego the walk to the observation deck and continue our way. Which was just as well, as when we walked back to the car two busloads of tourists arrived. From here you should be able to see Mount Fuji on a clear day, but it is hazy and Fuji-san, shy as he is, is hiding. We continue the winding road overlooking the awesome coastline. We notice two small rocky islands close to each other and connected by a thick rope. Could these be two sacred ...
