We took a Chinese tour for the 3 hour journey to visit the Hakka village at Yongding. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site. These were communal living areas (sometimes for up to 3,000 people).

We were on a packed coach full of Chinese families. We stopped off at a large supermarket selling goods made by the Tula people in the Hakkas: coffee, tea, shortbread, etc. We passed through beautiful countryside with banana plantations, and tea ...

... But it was a total mob scene with Chinese tour groups. Ended the day leisurely wandering around the village my Tulou was in and found it nice and peaceful like the first cluster I visited. They didn't speak a bit of English and ...

Jiqinglou, Chuxi Tulou Cluster – Fujian Tulou
That´s the name of the place we spent the night in. It´s a big, round house in four levels. Built of a earth/clay mixed with stones. They were built mainly to defend the villagers from enemies and animals.

We came there after a long trainride (10h with most of our luggage on our lap) on the bullit-train from Shanghai-Long Yen. We met up with the ...

Je me suis joint à eux.
