... admitting failure the remaining 11 retreated to prevent further loss. It was assumed that releasing ground troops onto the peninsula and capturing one side of the straight would allow them to retry later... In the five weeks that passed between the March 18 and April 25, the Turks were able to resupply their ammunition and strengthen their defenses on the peninsula and they were ready for a ground attack...

KAPADOKYA:
Cappadocia and the Interior
A stark lunar landscape. A mysterious open-air sculpture carved by Mother Nature’s chisel. These common descriptions of Cappadocia really just tap dance around the subject. So let’s just get this out of the way ...
... to sewe where the slaughter took place. Our tour guide was very knowledgable, only his English and vocals inflections completely resembled Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat. That is the genius of the character; that it comes close enough to resembling a foreigner in sound to convince people Borat is real despite it clearly being a fictious creation. "Turks won at Gallipoli...Very nice!"
And so we were paraded to various sites on the peninsula to see various ...
... Dardenelles with our rental bikes. We made it to the first visitor centre with no problems. The weather was beautiful and sunny, the countryside quiet and pretty and we both felt kind of proud of ourselves for figuring out an inexpensive way to do our own tour. Next was a flat 10 km ride to the museum and a few monuments. We then rode along the Mediterannean coast with stops at several cemeteries and monuments along the way. Dave and I will both admit ...
Canakkale, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey dave_carol... telling, many not. I don't spend time dreamily fantasizing. But how can one help but wonder what it was like. Those with knowledge can at least speculate on what the architectural appearance was, as in this drawing of the supposed appearance of the agora area. (The Greek agora was roughly equivalent to the commercial center of a city. You might say, the mall of its day. Therefore ...
Assos, Çanakkale Province, Turkey oldrover... fish dinner. this morning i just sat at the beach and read, sometimes getting in the water with schools of fish to cool off. in the distance, i kid you not, dolphins started to jump out of the water. I. KID. YOU. Assos, Canakkale, Turkey aarondewitt... was crisp and the town had gone to sleep. In the distance, out to sea, I could see fairly lights twinkling - signs of other towns, other places. It's morning now, and from my window I can see the small café offering cay and gozleme. Its not open yet. Behind it, the gentle waves of the Aegean rhythmically caress the shore. In the distance I can see Islands, mysteriously cloaked in sea haze, waiting to be explored. Another day.
Assos, Turkey guykb... Assos. This place was amazing, not sure what we had been expecting but could not have asked for more, the rooms were lush with the best hotel rooms so far! Apart from that the hotel was right on the water of the Aegean sea! The water here was crystal clear and they had many wharfs some sun backing going out over the water, so we were up and in that water as quickly as possible! Like always the water was a great temperature for chilling and just ...
