... chosen because it was very wide, had a natural curve, and a natural island in the middle so that they could work on one side and continue to utilize the other side for boat traffic. There was also lots of granite here, strong enough to withstand the power of the water.

It took 17 years to build the dam and 40,000 workers were employed. 150 died during the process (or at least this is what is reported).

... to the high altitude. Some people never left the hotel! Some of these folks spent their days reading in the oxygen lounge - never getting to meet the Tibetan people or see the sights. Others had minor issues - headaches, diarrhea, disorientation, fuzzy thinking, vomiting. Dave and I did pretty well after the first night. We would have hated to miss the daily activities and the chance to interact with the amazing people here . . . ...

So within this month of May there are 5 birthdays in our classroom so I thought that I would take this time to note the celebration traditions.
