... is coming in the other direction.
In principle they drive on the right here but this does not appear to apply to cyclists and rickshaws who want to turn left for example. In one place they are building a new dual carriagway. Half of it has been laid. The other half has been abraded with a pneumatic drill to make the new surface stick. It's like driving over corrugated iron. Traffic is driving in both directions on both the old and new parts of the carriageway. EEK!

... and the silent hierarchy that expresses itself through seating position and height of glass during a toast. After dinner, it was off to Karaoke TV. We rented a very posh room all to ourselves at a fancy KTV bar which looked more like a five-star hotel than anything else to which I can compare it. We were regaled with Chinese pop songs, old and new, while Bo and I answered back with badly-phrased Bon Jovi. A night to remember, for sure.
Xiamen, Fujian, China jef_smi... ticket was an unbelievable 45 Euro including all taxes, and I got myself a seat for same day departure. It was almost hard to leave, and even so suddenly, because the staff at the hostel treated me so nicely, I felt more like a family member visiting, which may sound unbelievable in a big and busy hostel. When I left, they called me a taxi and even the cleaner was waving bye bye outside. The day before I had asked her to take my laundry out of the dryer when it was ...
Xiamen, Fujian, China sabaidii... to Bengal.... oooh we've got more dishes than probably the rest of the world!) . Anways, I'd decided that what was good for the locals was good for me. I usually prefer vegetarian food, but don't mind eating anything else to survive. But food just was not a problem. Firstly there is rice everywhere... and the servings are MASSIVE! I had trouble finishing the food most of ...
Xiamen, China lazytraveller... around ten minutes but it is a great time and it gives you a fair idea of the size of the island and how beautiful it is. I wouldn't do it again but its worth one go. You pay at the little white ticket booth to the left of the ferry terminal. Some 'You Do You do' girls can speak a little English. If you need information try the 'You Do You Do ...
Xiamen, China eddakath... on the meter. It took a good 10 minutes of yelling at him to get the correct change. I'm beginning to find China a bit tiring. Xiamen itself is a typical Chinese city (character is an evil thing here, apparently) on the coast, but the nearby island of Gulang Yu was a pleasingly relaxed little place. Another former colonial concession, the more recent development on the island has taken some care to try to retain the character of the original buildings, and for the most ...
