... the Rippon Winery. Its a private winery set at the edge of the lake. We had some wine tasting and purchased a few bottles of course before continuing to Diamond Lake for a hike up to the Lake Wanaka lookout point. The hike total was 2 hours round trip and the final result was a spectacular view of the entire area.

Setting out through alpine fields we crossed a rickety swing bridge staring at Mt Aspire glacier before heading up the Rob Roy valley through beech forest, with the roaring river below. What a fab drive, yes Mable did it again. Mac was in heaven it was just like the Scottish Highlands. All was going so well until they stopped at the Blue Pool.... SANDFLIES!!!! they are like pikies at a boot fair. (Yes I can say this, I am not employed in an overly PC controlled job anymore) You can't outrun them and once they are in the car you are in trouble, bit like the film ...

... the Roy Glacier and mountain range. It was an amazing site, really beautiful snow covered mountain peaks. We even saw a piece of the glacier fall off with a thundering boom. We stayed for about an hour just looking at the views, it was hard to get enough. I would highly recommend the hike to anyone as it was one of the most stunning sites I'd ever seen for just a few hours hike.
