3 Simpson Lane Lake Tekapo, Christchurch-Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand

Kia ora, we got packed up and on the road again by 10. We only had a short drive today literally just over an hour so we tried to kill some time by looking for a few things to do in Twizel. We gave up shortly after as LJ didn't fancy feeding the salmon at the salmon farm and we couldn't find the place where a scene from Lord of The Rings was filmed that is apparently in the area. So we set off towards Lake Tekapo, along the way we passed a few more lakes that were that amazing light blue colo...
Lake Tekapo, South Island, New Zealand gaz-ljOkay, there's nothing really to do in Lake Tekapo. On the way up, our busdriver said he likes to have a barbecue there. Everyone interested chipped in $10 on the bus, and he bought $250 worth of groceries. Cooking started at 5; dinner was ready just before 7. Tons of food. Everyone got steak, chicken, veggie sausages, salad, pasta, bread, and cheesecake for dessert. Only problem was a shortage of plates and utensils. We had started breaking out the pans when someone found another stash of sha...

... about why is it called sweeping and not brooming when it is called a mop and moping? It maybe my language but I’ve no idea why?
With no resolution to this dilemma we finished work and headed out to lunch, that is me, Jovana and Sara who also works at Tailor made. We went to a Japanese restaurant because the Thai place was closed and Sara has a wheat allergy. I’m not a huge fan of sushi, it’s a bit the raw fish ...
Lake Tekapo, South Island, New Zealand theroad2... are penned up, not free to roam about like ours at home. Our hotel room in Lake Tekapo is right on the lakeshore. The water is an amazing florescent turquoise color and the snow on the mountains behind it make a beautiful contrast between the blue water and blue sky. There is a lovely little church on the lakeshore called The Church of the Good Shepherd; what a beautiful setting to worship. There is also a statue honoring sheep dogs for their invaluable service.
Lake Tekapo, South Island, New Zealand coloexplorers... br>
An early start and we drove to Mount Cook, the tallest mountain in New Zealand. It was a bit overcast and very very cold and one of the tracks was shut due to a landslide. A quick brekkie then we walked as far as we could along the track looking at the mountain (well as much as we could see due to the low lying cloud cover!). We could only take the cold for so long so we decided to head to Queenstown in search of colder climates.

Lake Tekapo, South Island, New Zealand pixelchick... scenic detour to Fairlie. We were on an unsealed road going up and down hills and here was where we found out that our Jucy doesnt like hills! It was very slow going! Sophie tried to make friends with some cows at one point but they ran away! Eventually we arrived in Fairlie but didnt have time to explore - i.e the sun was getting low and Sophie didnt want to drive in the dark if she could help ...
Lake Tekapo, South Island, New Zealand wollifer... mountain in Australasia) in a small plane which took in the West Coast, the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers as well as an exciting landing on the Tasman Glacier. It was pretty spectacular. We landed close to another plane from the same company which tried to take off but had become frozen to the snow! The two pilots had to dig quite a lot of snow away and chip off ice from the landing gear and ...
Mount Cook, North Island, New Zealand mertonkiwis... also is a glacial lake, but because of the mineral composition it appears to be bright blue, which I found both odd and beautiful. I don't think I'd want to go swimming in it though... Next up we pulled into the small town of Twizel to fill up on petrol. We didn't see any more than the gas station, but the name is awesome enough that you can just assume the town in as well ;-) After we had a full tank again we pulled off at Lake Tekapo, another large lake ...
Mount Cook, South Island, New Zealand erinaldo1587... views of the lake from the top of the mountain were spectacular and it came with a real feeling of achievement that we'd made it to the top. Not quite sure this is correct but think we climbed about 2400 ft (so also good practice for Spain) and gave us much needed exercise. After a quick stop for a beer we walked out to the banks of the lake where there is a little church with a big window behind the altar that frames the picture of the lake and mountains ...
Lake Tepako, South Island, New Zealand maxnstan... for work? Euuu no, here on vacation. But you say it's for work! Yeah, it worked with something like that. What do you do? I work on ships. And you have that on your ship? (with a funny smile on his face) Heuuuu yes? When we go in the Arctic, we use it to make ice strips. Now funny guy looks puzzled, after all, he's military and he's probably not able to write his name without making mistakes, that's too much for him. You have to take your van out of ...
