... house which had been given to President Ataturk by the people of Trabzon. He only stayed there for 2 days during a visit to the region. Now it is a museum and a popular spot for wedding photos as the grounds are very beautiful. Returning to the hotel we walked around the large outlet mall nearby and then went back to the hotel for dinner. Tomorrow we are off to Istanbul for an overnight stay in the old city and to visit the Grand Bazaar. This time we will be able see it ...

In 1901 the port gained in popularity with the installation of English cranes. During WW 1 the city was captured by the Russian Caucasus Army. The Russians banned mosques and forced the Turks to leave Trabzon. The city was also the major Armenian extermination centre. In 1923 Trabzon again became a part of Turkey and there was a mass exodus of Greeks from Trabzon.

There was also an adorable doberman pup hanging around the seaside which played with us all the time. Later we went back to the embassy and got our visas. That was such a relief!
This is one of the only places in the world you can get a same day Iranian visa.
We went again to the mosque food tent at sunset for a Ramadan meal as we were much more relaxed about it this time.

... 4th breakfast. I'm liking Trabzon. I think I might even do a Superhike here in this area. Which leads to the question: should I go ahead and go visit that famous cliffside monastary a few miles south of here? Definitely on my must visit list--but on second thought, putting it off for another visit would give me something really cool to look forward to when I come back to this corner of the world...
