After meandering along the streets of the old town and the market, we decided to grab lunch before boarding the bus to Heraklion. We decided to test out our new rules for Greek Restaurants:

The large urn is the same height as Brian it was turned in three to four pieces.....someone must have been the turner & someone else the potter surely? Must have been a combination of coils & turning. Later potteries were seen to be painted then the dark paint was etched. You may make out the little blue pottery....time after trade with exports & imports.

Antonia kindly took us to the local markets this morning. The vegetables are superb.. I know our vision is slightly clouded by excitement.. but they definitely are very good quality as we get to taste now & then. You are so right Manuela...self catering is going to be a struggle to slip back into! There are 2 microclimates here for growing fresh produce.. the plateau in the mountains & the low areas near the coastline....all year ...
