Miyajima island and then off to Kumamoto

A travel blog entry by daveegray on Apr 29, 2014

It was a relaxed start for us on Tuesday, we decided that we would take the chance to visit the island of Miyajima despite the ominous rain filled clouds overhead. We were lucky and managed to stay dry the entire time we were on the island thankfully. It was an easy train journey and the ferry trip to get there, using our JR passes meant it was free. These are a must have for anyone visiting Japan. This island itself has a beautiful red shrine that floats on the water when the tide is in ...

Up by 10am and off the the train station. Lorry, Peter and I were off to Miyajima and Geoff was off to Kure to visit a turbine company he had contacts at. ... was also quite testing for our fitness but we made it in good time and it was lovely to have the sun and blue sky as well. At the bottom we found a lovely little place to have some noodles or curry for lunch since we were starving. After that we went back down, looked at a few of the temples on the island and then wondered around the shops for a while. It was getting into the mid afternoon then so we hopped back onto the ferry and ...

... unique design. soon it was time to leave iwakuni and so we jumped on a bus but soon jumped off again (it was the wrong bus). After getting on the right bus we made it to the train station and jumped on the shinkansen. travelling at over 200km/h we made it back to hiroshima in a blazing 18 minutes. Then we headed to the post office grabbed a quick bit to eat (by pointing at stuff on the wall) and then headed to the hostel to write and now ...
