Miyajima island and then off to Kumamoto

... via a machine in the hotel lobby, just insert your room key given at reception and then put in either credit card or cash to pay for the room. For a couple of hours we chilled in the room before adventuring out into the city, it seems shops open late say 10am and stay open until around 9pm in Japan, so it is better to head out later. It also means you can see the bright lights of the city in their full flow. After walking for a while and enjoying looking around the shops we decided to ...

... the year sign at the start of the temple area. Apparently "very bad" year for Lorry and Peter but very good for me.

Went and saw the Buddha statues and this time they were all dress with beanies! So funny!

A Day at Miyajima

Had to walk up a small semi steep hill for the bus. After the bus ...

... to the top of Mt miejji. One of Japans prime ministers rated the view from the top of Mt miejji as being in the top 3 sights in Japan. It sure lived up to is reputation. You could literally see almost 360 degree views of the ocean, the mainland, islands jutting out and mountain ranges in the distance. We headed back to the cable car and made our way down. We shared a car with two old Japanese ladies and despite our almost non-existent Japanese ...

... everywhere but not overcrowded or feeling squashed. We walked up towards the big Tori gate that is in the ocean, and such a blessing, the tide was out so we got to walk down and get real close to the gate. That was very cool. Then we headed up to where we catch the ropeway/cable car. Thankfully there was a free shuttle bus that helped us avoid a gruelling 20 minute walk. The bus dropped us off at the start ...
