We stopped and took photos of the islands main attraction the Floating Torii Gate, then continued up to catch the bus to the cable car station.

After a street car ride, a train, and then a short ferry ride, we arrived on the island of Miyajima. The island has a population of around 2200 and many of those living there have businesses related to the tourism the island gets daily. ... explore the town a little more. It was a very quiet morning, not a lot of people out but the deer where! We saw the pagoda and some temples and shrines. There was a Buddha statue I really liked. We even saw a wedding at the big shrine. The water level was still really low and we never got to see the 'floating' view of the shrine and Tori gate. ...

... this island. Rice does not stick to it when cooking. In the afternoon I took the train to Iwakuni and after 2 hours of walking I came across the famous Kintaikyo bridge which has 4 arches. This wooden bridge is very impressive and it was built this way to prevent flood damage. This area has few restaurants which are specialized with Okonomi food which is the open grill cooking by the customer. It is definitely worth to try ...

... we decided to try the rice buns filled with beef (not the ones with eel and vegetables!!) They were scrumptious :) Afterwards we walked through Momijudani Park and took the Miyajima ropeway (aka cable car) up to the Shiahiiwa station, where we then walked up 100m to the summit of Mt Misen (535m). The views were quite impressive, followed by only a few spots of rain.... We then (very un-Japanese like) trecked all the way back down the mountain. On the way down ...
