I realized I had most of Friday off and all of Monday off on Friday morning. My schedule was pretty good, at least for the first few weeks of school anyway. So, I headed out to Datong, in the north of Shanxi province.

After class, I packed quickly and went to the train station, just in time for the 12:45 train to Zhengzhou. I saw my student on the bus there and he helped me buy my ticket. The ticket lady wouldn't ...

... into the gym to play.

Mr. Referee told us to play up to 11 points and he was serious about his job! Funny thing was he probably only knew how to count to 11 because in the past game 20 always came after 11. Whenever we served and had our foot on the line, he would call us out. I’d say he makes a great referee. By the end of this summer, we’re going to be volleyball pros with a Chinese coach!
