... sweet potatoes and other vegetables. We saw three hanging coffins suspended in crevasses in cliff faces - can't work out how they put them there. Our stop before we returned to the boat was at a village where a performance was put on by the locals. Our guide was very informative. Both about the area and her personal situation. Her family had to move when the area was flooded by the construction of the dam. Compensation was given ...

The first day here I headed out to one about 40 km east - Xiaoqi. Dates back to 787, or so the sign said. Lots of old houses and ...

Not a lot to say about Wuhan really. Another big city in China - home to about 5 million. It's on the Yangtze and its a BIG river here. Must be at least one km across, maybe more. Lots of river traffic. And quite a few BIG bridges. The Chinese certainly know how to build bridges. The Yellow Crane Park, and the Yellow Crane tower, is probably the main ...

From Yichang it was overland east - to Wuhan. Before I got off the boat I asked how I could get from the dock to the railway station at Yichang to catch a train to Wuhan. I thought the dock would be in the town, and that the town was relatively small. Silly me. The dock was 10-15 km from the town and, like all places in China, it was home to millions so was a bit more than a town. "Get a private car from the dock" I ...
