Today is a long drive day and we are making our way down to the south of China. The landscape has changed again and it has been so enjoyable just passing the time watching the Chinese world go by whilst listening to my iPod. The scale of building projects, superhighways and huge factories never ceases to fascinate me. The contrast with the traditional field systems and people working the land by hand is striking. ... near the river. Anyway the walk in takes us through a load of butchers, they’ve all sorts of cuts of meat or birds ready for the pot, people are handing them and there’s not a fridge in sight. However the roads and our progress were so good, 'the management' decided to bypass Xichang and drive all ...

Another very uneventful drive day today, on the road at 7.30am driving along a very very bumpy road at low speeds for most of the day, mostly following lushly forested valleys as we continue south along the south-eastern most edge of the Tibetan plateau.

We stopped in a roadside village for lunch at about 2pm for a large plate of fried rice, accompanied by chilli flakes ...

... time we stopped at a roadside 'facility' they seemed to get progressively worse until one was nothing more than an enclosed pit with planks laid across at intervals, about 20cm apart so that you could squat with a foot on each plank and do your business in between - refreshing!
We arrived in Panzhihua and unfortunately found that we couldn't get a train until the following day so we had to stay the night. We found a cheap room in a hotel by ...
