... staying here and it's a large place. We received a letter from the hotel manager and an email from the MD of Banyan Tree Hotels, a meal in either restaurant of our choice on the house with a bottle of champagne (very good it was too on both counts) and a bottle of red wine in the room. The staff have succeeded in raising the Banyan Tree in our estimation, but we are looking forward to anonymity again, or at least the level two wide-eye guys travelling together in China can ...

At 8.00am the train left and soon we were reaching speeds of up to 300 km/h although the ride was so smooth you would hardly think you were going that fast. A scrolling sign kept everybody informed ...

... The rain stopped for exactly an hour and that was the time to make our first moves. It was really good. Unfortunately we couldn’t hear much what our professional Tai Chi teacher told us as the waterfall behind us made too much noise but it was great fun and the scenery was amazing! I might go for a second ...

So "Little Al" has been planning a trip to Hangzhou--then to Xihu lake--then the mountains west of the lake and their Tea villages. Folks, this is a long long bike ride for a fat old guy to attempt. After 22 miles into the trip, we get to ride up mountains and see the tea villages! a prospect I was not enjoying the idea of. But since I had nothing else to do I decided to try it.

We started at our favorite bike shop where my trusty ...
