There I walked 2 hours in the reserve + water pools like Pamukale. It started to rain. I found a shelter under a nylon, with a Chinese who sells incent for Budha - he tried to sell to me...

There were no busses, so I decided to hitch-hike. As I crossed the street, a minivan took me ...

Baishuitai, Yunnan Province, China blummo... 8mths of treatment. We walked away without any pills, but were impressed by the doctor and the museum's free entry.

The Scripture Chamber opposite also had an interesting and free exhibition on the history of the Red Army's Long March. Most impressive was the simulation of the weather conditions the Army marched in through across China's varying terrains. There were a few dubious commentaries about how the minorities ...
Shangri-La, Yunnan, China caraghandbenI decided to go to Shangri-la for a couple of reasons. One was that I really wanted to visit the Ganden Sumtseling Gompla (a 300 year old Tibetan Monastary) and 2nd was that I wanted to see if my body would take the altitude. It would definitely be an easy and cheaper escape then paying a package for Lhasa and then realizing that I needed to get out because of altitude. (Obviously I had already been in ...
I may have already started to feel the effects of altitude as well, as I became incredibly drowsy the higher up we went (or that just may have been from being in a car after two days of hardy trail-blazing). The ride in the minivan took approximately two hours, compared to what would definitely have been at least three on a bus, and we were in Zhongdian. Cobblestone streets, crisp blue high-altitude air, more "indigenous" looking locals, spartan/Tibetan(?) style ...
Zhongdian, China ana.k... spectacular. Litang is situated on a small plateau surrounded by 6000m + mountains that look like they were drawn onto the horizon by a small child; rising sharply from the ground and forming rigid triangle shapes. The pictures do more justice than words. Despite not being in Tibet, Litang is a Tibetan town where everyone speaks Tibetan, and despises the Chinese. Very few foreigners come here and everyone we wandered past stopped to say hello or have their photo ...
Zhongdian, Shangri La, China nycos... below to the top of the mountain, which was sometimes obscured by cloud, being so high. We sat on the deck and drank a well earned Dali beer, watching the view and patting each other on the back :) The next day (1st June) we left the guesthouse at 9:30am after a leisurely breakfast, a little bit unhappily as it was such a nice place to stay and look at the view, but also quite pleased because for the first time in what seemed like ages there was no rain ...
