Gulang Yu - a Chinese Colonial Theme park

... for China and the persimmon harvest is also in full swing. The roads may have improved in China but I cannot say the same for the driving. ... noodles?" "Oh. Umm...." "We thought we would get dumplings." Dumplings is an option?! Of course dumplings, then! At dinner, Bo and I were presented with our very own Chinese name stamps and red ink well to sign important documents. Mine had my Chinese name, Jie fu. Pronounced with the correct tones, it means, "Heroic Man." The way I usually say it, it comes out, "Sister's Husband." Dinner was a great opportunity to observe dinner ...

A Jump To The South

... winter is coming. I guess Santa is already waiting up there in the northern plains of Novosibirsk, all packed up and ready to go. After breakfast I felt it is time to become active or freeze to death, so I enquired about air tickets to somewhere warm. Hainan island was quite a long way, but the girls at the reception got me a very cheap ticket to Xiamen, a place on the southeast coast I always wanted to visit, with a forecast promising more than 20 degrees down there ...

Instead of catching the ferry straight away we chatted to some 'You Do You Do' girls and decided on grabbing a ride on a fast boat around the island. The price for this is pretty much fixed as they have their own ...

Warmth!

For so long, I have maintained that the worst part about travelling is the travelling itself - the getting to and from, and the time in between. I admit I was wrong. It's just a specific part of it; it's the getting to and from the bus/train station. On the 24 hour train ride to Xiamen, OI came to realise that I actually quite enjoy the train rides here. The enforced idleness of it all gives me a chance to catch up on some reading, or listen to music, or sit and stare out of ...
