... main halls which contain images of Buddha and a huge surrounding courtyard. Again, it is all very stark and utilitarian compared to cathedrals but very much in keeping with the peace and calm associated with Asian religion.

... and negotiated with a woman there, managing to get me a space in a rather modern tulou, for a discounted price. They also fed me cake and apples. So many people here are so willing to help you, it's awesome. I pretty much passed out when I got to the tulou (another motorbike ride... through the storm that had just started! Fun), and slept from 6pm to 7am - the longest I've slept for a while.

... of a hindrance than a help, as many of the roads are not written in, and then some steps up might be drawn in as a road. It took us a long time to realize this, and so it has taken us all three days to get home without getting lost. Luckily, toilets are everywhere, and so getting lost isn't a problem. Locals have set up 'restaurants' in their little courtyards, and so there is always somewhere to eat. Seafood is the speciality here, and so that's what we have eaten. Oyster omelets, ...

... houses for their outstanding selection of Chinese teas. One thing that became obvious quickly inside the real China is that English speaking people, outside major hotels, is hard to find so it is often a very amusing interaction as you negotiate prices in the side streets.
Overall we were extremely impressed at how advanced, clean and developed Xiamen is relative to both our expectations.
Back to the South China Sea for a full day at sea on to Shanghai! ...

... for a bit and as we were heading back to the bus, we saw little sand crabs so we squatted and watched them move around, the beach here has a fair amount of rubbish lying near the waters edge, I wouldn't liked to had swum here! Near the exit to where we had to meet, we bought a sugar donut thing but it wasn't soft, it was like a chorro stick but harder. Back on the bus and this time heading for the pedestrian shopping street, yahoo!! We had 1 hour and 10 minutes ...
