Today we had a two hour drive along the highway to Knossos, an archeological site from the Minoan age. It was a Minoan palace that was nearly 4000 years old. It was home to a king who asked Apollo for a bull to sacrifice to honour Apollo. The bull was so beautiful though that the king sacrificed another one, which made Apollo angry. He then made the queen fall in love with the bull, which produced the Minotaur, a half human, half bull, which lived on human blood. ...

... Minotaur in. Today there isn't too much left of the palace. There are some parts of the palace still standing though, and, from what I saw, I think the palace would be really impressive. Minolas came just before 12 so chatted to ...

After dinner of a Cretan plate, I headed off to one of the two cinemas in town, which turned out to be an Odeon, the UK chain, at a fairly ...

... We finished our tour by walking through a park which was quite busy with stalls and people sitting outside a cafe, but nothing special.

On our second day in Heraklion, we went to Knossos to see the (remains of) Minoan Palace. It was originally built in 1900BC and some of that survives, but most of the remains date from a rebuild in 1700BC - still a long time ago! Knossos itself was an important city in ancient times and ...
