... 8220;Hello.” He stamped my page and I was off. Finding my bag was a little challenging as they have the international baggage carousels in two different rooms, but it was very easy to find Catherine when I came out. Our first stop was at a bakery filled with fresh baguettes, tarts, quiches, croissants and more. It was just thrilling. I honestly probably could have spent the rest of the day milling about the boulengerie eating and helping out ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States 3beansabroad... man, who was looking right back at my.

This is when the alarm bells started going off in my head. He just made me uneasy, the way he was staring at me. He asked wh**e I had come from and I answ**ed "Washington DC". The look of hatred in his eyes startled me, and he spat "you're full of **** if you're from DC". I hastened to clarify that I wasn't, in fact, from th**e, but I had only been visiting. This was when I knew he was some ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States angelaincanada... the trip the price for the same tickets had reached $1600 with very limited seating choice.

Hotel for 3 ranged from $95-$295 per night (all included an Israeli breakfast)

The $295 included dinner as well.

In my research I discovered that adding a third person to a room was always a significant increase probably because of the added food cost.

An average nice hotel ran $200-$300 a ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States leafmold... couple bars and played "The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down" five times on the jukebox and we sang every word like it was 1865. We became the hit of the party after asking the bartender to turn it up and to put on the Yankees-Red Sox Game.
We hit the road early in the morning and knew we were going to have a good day when we read signs that said we were entering "Goochland". Next stop...Western Virginia.
Richmond/ Mt. Vernon, Virginia, United States matusz... to change, pack up and head out!

We were finally on the bike and headed south towards Cary, North Carolina to visit Luba’s family at about 12pm.

The ride south was very pleasant. I really enjoy riding on small highways with really tall trees along both sides of the highway. It just seems like a much more peaceful ride. It’s so much different from the west coast riding where there a lot of open space.
Richmond, Virginia, United States hawgboundSoo one of the research program coordinators thought it was a great idea to take the interns to Kings Dominion, an amusement park. The interns from this area seemed hyped up about it, so I was excited as well.

Kings Dominion is about an hour and 15 minutes from Charlottesville, past Richmond, I think. People talk about how they go to Richmond to shop or see a movie (because Charlottesville clearly offers none of ...
Doswell, Virginia, United States sojanetFrom Austin, we went back to Virginia to spend a couple more weeks with my mom and Chuck. It was great getting to bookend our trip by spending time with them. Winter was snowy and pretty, then spring was beautiful. We went camping in Virginia, then took a quick trip to Florida (by quick I mean a 13-hour drive followed by an identical return trip a couple of days later). Camping was fun. We made smores. My mom and Lindsey love them some chocolate.

We ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States daneThe preparations for the trip naturally began some time ago, but what better time to start a travel blog to Ireland than on St. Patrick's Day? Kate reminded me on her way out the door that I need to put on green. Although it's unlikely that one of my tennis friends will pinch me if I forget, it seems like a good time to start getting into the spirit of our upcoming adventure. I've ordered a book from Barnes and Noble called A Pint of Plain ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States 3beansabroad... and is now past the half way point of the ride. Spirits are good, legs and hind end sore, but what do you expect when you are on a cycling journey such as this. I plan on talking again over the weekend, so hopefully I will have another update in a couple days. Pat
Richmond, Virginia, United States crumpy98Richmond... Where the United States were born! S'true, you know! Another uneventful bus trip (sad that I'm wishing for exciting things to affect the journeys now, eh?) later finds me in Virginia, and into another "Days Inn." Not as nice as the last one, but cheaper! They offer free breakfast as well, so can't really complain! Richmond is another beautiful place, although the weather (grey and Scottish-like!) isn't really condusive to wandering ...
