Museum of Contemporary Art and Flying Westward

A travel blog entry by lrandal

To the Museum of Contemporary Art we went this morning, walking briskly down toward Lake Michigan from our hotel due to a dramatic drop in temperature overnight. My loose-weave cardigan was no match for the breeze.

What a place this museum is! To think I left it to the last morning to explore! Highlights: a small but (to me) spectacular show of paintings by emerging artist, Chicagoan Molly Zuckerman-Hartung; a ...

Between flights in Chicago

We'd gone through security in Columbus, but of course, when switching to international flights, you go through it again.
We're at international departures with a four-hour layover. Volvo overseas delivery gives you a pass for the SAS business lounge in Chicago. It was perfect--quiet, free food, beer, wine, wifi, and only one announcement--boarding for our flight to Copenhagen. Did I mention the free beer, wine and food?

    What a great rate!

    from iluvvegas

My husband and I have stayed here on three different occasions. We generally get a weekend rate of $37-49/night from wyndham.com. For that price, I can easily overlook the minor cosmetic issues in the rooms. One room had a towel bar that wasn't very secure ... and there were lots of holes in the wall to show how often it's been re-hung. One room had a water stain on the ceiling. One corner room had a shower stall only which was rather small and was also missing some baseboards. Nothing bad enough to ask to be moved to another room. This is by no means a 4 or 5 star hotel. However, the rooms are clean, the beds comfy, the staff is helpful, and it has a great location near Woodfield. If you're on a budget, this hotel is a great choice.

    2 Thumbs up

    from anonymous

I was very skeptical by reading the last review and by looking at the picture of the hotel online. I was wrong. I spent 1 night on Saturday evening and the experience was excellent.

    - Check in was a breeze.

    - We got a room on the 6th floor.

    - Good size room. Clean room and hallway. The Herman Miller chair does add a nice touch to the room. Comfy beds. Plenty of pillows.

    -Bathroom is a tad outdated.

    - Curtain is not designed to be fully closed. Bummer if want to sleep in and sunlight is hitting on you.

-Close to the malls and shopping centers

-Very knowledgeable and helpful front desk personnel

    - Good week-end rate.

Thumbs up. Definitelty would stay at this hotel again if I'm in the area.

Disappointed and Cannot Believe the Prior Reviews

    from anonymous

We were surprised at the previous reviews. This place was dissapointing and in need of a renovation. The carpet was worn. The back of the bathroom door had paint stripped off. The hook was ripped off. White splotches were on the carpet and on the easy chair. We also spotted two insects. The ice machine did not work on our floor. No premium cable channels. Sure it was cheap, but we will not be returning.

    The secret is out...

    from codename_is_milo

I have stayed here numerous times and I can never understand why it isn't packed every time. The price is more than right and the hotel is well kept. The management is very competent, but not overbearing. In my experience, this a Wyndham trait. Some people mistake it for being aloof, but the few times I have had a problem, it was very quickly resolved with a sincere apology. That's all I want from a hotel. This hotel gets it. I have never eaten at the hotel's restaurant, but I never eat in hotel restaurants anyhow. There are many restaurants nearby.

    Great Price Great Hotel

    from lookinforsun

We had five rooms for one night 12/18-12/19 and found the hotel to be more than we thought for $49 a night.

The hotel is clean, staff helpful and friendly and the pool is nice. Very close to Woodfield Mall.

    Would stay here again.

Great value for a super location near Woodfield Mall!

    from anonymous

Have stayed here many times using By Request or calling the hotel directly. Weekend rates are great buys and often include breakfast. Weekdays are more expensive because corporate business centers are nearby. Close to Woodfield Mall (stop by customer service and pick up coupons for visitors), IKEA, and other retail. This is a very crowded congested area so try and arrive at off peak hours. Haeger Pottery outlet is nearby at E. Dundee, IL with terrific values. Hotel staff always seems efficient. Hotel has interior corridor rooms and coffee maker and hair dryer in all rooms. Check out the Schaumburg website for more attractions in area.

Great Deal & Great Shopping Location

    from AroundTheWorldInADay

I went to this hotel for a weekend stay beginning 7/30/04. I joined the Wyndham by Request program and had a complimentary snack, water and wine placed in my room.

The hotel is close to wonderful shopping and it is convenient to the highway. Hotel rooms are clean. The area is safe. I booked on the hotel's site for $44/night rate and received a bonus coupon for free breakfast.

    I highly recommend the hotel.

Above average hotel at a great price

    from anonymous

Had to stay in Schaumberg one weekend, and was a little unsure of this hotel at first because of the rate I got ($35/night through wyndham.com). I was plesantly surprised that everything turned out OK. Only complaints were that the mattress was a little worn out, and the plumbing was a bit loud. Both of those I could definitely overlook because of the price (and because I wasn't expecting a 5-star). Front desk was extremely helpful! Join the by-request club before you book- you'll get free high-speed internet in your room, plus beer and a snack for your room - can't beat it!

Nice clean, comfy room for a low price.

    from anonymous

Stayed here for one night in June, 2004. Check-in was quick, room was clean and bed was comfy. Only complaint was that the rate I booked with Travelocity was $10 higher than the rate the hotel charged if you just called them up. Since the internet rate was pre-paid and non-refundable, there wasn't anything I could do about it. But the hotel itself was fine. Don't bother with the buffett breakfast, though. At $10 per person the food wasn't that good, you'd do better at IHOP or Denny's for that amount of money.

    Cheap and Cheerful

    from galileocan

This hotel is a very reasonably priced, full service hotel that is conveniently located for those who wish to shop till ya drop at Woodfield Mall. The indoor swimming pool is clean and a good size. The rooms are well maintained, and there is a restaurant on site. I have stayed here twice and would stay here again especially because of its convenience to the mall.
