... In my defense, I wasn't really speeding much and rest of the traffic was going pretty fast. To top it all, instead of one, I got two tickets, one for speeding and one for not having a printed copy of my insurance card (I had it on my iPhone).

When we came to pay for our groceries, Kerrin and I stood a little dumbfounded, as the tellers had no platform for you to place your groceries on, so we just kinda stood there trying to figure this out. We obviously looked like hill billies again because some kind packer promptly came over to us and removed my basket from my hand and ushered us over to the till point. The basket goes on ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Doubletree Hotel Charlotte Airport
Great Value, Clean Rooms
Stayed here on Coca Cola 600 weekend 5/27-5/29. Booked a Wyndham Webrate for $51 per night, and signed up for the ByRequest rewards program. Check-in was fast, and was given a second floor room with two double beds. The room was slightly larger than average, industry standard amenities. The room did have wired and wireless internet, which I was told is free as a ByRequest member, $9.95 otherwise.
Upon returning from the race Saturday night, we were delighted to see two cold Miller Lites and a box of honey roasted peanuts on the table, just as requested via my ByRequest profile. Kudos to Wyndham, that is good service.
The room was in decent repair, no obvious stains or marks on bedding or carpeting. Shower had good water pressure, though no matter what temperature it was set at, the water was very hot. Air conditioner worked very well, but is a little loud.
The hotel is in a quiet business park, and is easy to get in and out of. There weren't any restaurants within a short walking distance that I could see, but there are clusters of places within 5 miles. The hotel is just minutes from I-85 and I-77, and about 25 minutes from the Speedway. Overall, I had a very good experience and would not hesitate to stay here again if the price was right.
This hotel has this 10 people airport shuttle which takes 1/2 hour to do a round trip, there were 30-40 of us, so some wound up waiting over an hour at the airport before got pick up. Same story leaving the next morning, tried to book a 4:30 shuttle, told by front desk that it's already full, so had to get up an extra 1/2 hour earlier just ot catch the bus. Room was clean and well set up. No free internet. Will not come back.
Second Stay, Not As Great As The First
This is my second stay at this hotel. I was here exactly a year ago for business for 2 nights. Due to weather, I ended my stay early. This time, I stayed all 4 nights. The hotel is well decorated, the rooms have a little wear, but they are still quite nice and very clean. The hotel is very convenient to everything. This stay I was able to do a lot more tourist stuff and I am never more than 15 minutes away from anything (if I don't get lost!). The hotel restaurant is small, but is good if you don't have a car or can't go out. I think they have room service but I can't find any information about it in the room. I've had to call the front desk a few times and they always seem like I'm bothering them. The night I checked in, the front desk team was apparently from the school of one word answers. Very annoying. Other than the attitude problem at the desk, I am very pleased with this hotel. Can't beat what you get (pool, exercise room, etc.) for the price.
If it wasn't for the ladybugs...
I went to my cousin's graduation in Rock Hill and the hotel she blocked out was out of rooms so I chose to stay in Charlotte. I'm a Wyndham devotee and love the personal touches from the Wyndham by Request program.
I drove over and was place in a corner room, if staying in a garden always request one they are the largest and usually have either an in-room sofa or a separate living room. This one was the living room with a sleeper sofa and bedroom so I had 2 TVs. After checking in I turned on the heat and went back out not returning till about midnight. There were many ladybugs in the bathroom, living and bedrooms. I had no idea where they were coming from but I called downstairs, the manager sent up a bellman to get my bags and move me into an identical room one floor down. I even had the guy come back when I got the cork stuck in my complementary wine.
The room was nice, management was very swift with relocating me when i complained about the ladybugs and breakfast downstairs was good. My other complaint which i have to guess was becuase of my middle of the night move, when I returned from the graduation on Saturday my room was not made. I had to go back out anyway and it was cleaned when I returned. The Hotel is across the road from the new Bobcats arena and they change the traffic pattern on game nights. I was not aware and ended up in the parking lot of the arena. The parking attendants were very helpful and directed me out the lot and back to the hotel.
Pampered? You Bet!
After traveling for hours, and night had set in...We found a wonderful respite at the Wyndham Hotel/Airport in Charlotte,NC. Before booking a room through the web-site, I enrolled in one of their programs, called "by Request". I was able to "order" extra pillows, towels, wine, snacks, etc. To our amazement, everything that was ordered was waiting for us in our room that night. Our weary eyes, lit up and we were in heaven. The luxurious amenities, provided by the "Golden Door" was another great addition to the shampoo/moisturizer supplies.
The room itself was a substantial size, and extremally comfortable beds. By morning, all this pampering left us refreshed and ready to start the day. No worries!
The Wyndham website was very easy to use, and the room rates surpassed our expectations for such luxury accommodations.
We would highly recommend this hotel.....
Understaffed for 4th of July weekend
This was my first time staying at this hotel during the 4th of July weekend.
On the positive side, the courtesy shuttle service, the drivers, the pool area and the room were fine.
On the negative side was the hotel's only eating establishment, The Wyndham Garden Cafe.
Its been a long time since I witnessed such a disorganized and unprofessional resturant atmosphere. The chef along with the host had to take orders along with the only waiter working. Most of the items on the menu were not available to order and of course the service was extremely slow, rude and disorganized.
There definately was not enough staff to handle everything. The front desk had only one person most of the time. There was no travel information or travel guides posted nor was there a concierge to give guests any information and so the one person at the front desk would get annoyed if you asked them for directions or any information. One of the maids not only cleaned rooms, but she helped at the front desk and drove the courtesy shuttle too. Since the staff was obviously over worked, they were not the most polite people with the exception of the shuttle drivers. I don't know if it was a holiday weekend and people called off at the last minute or if this was business as usual at this hotel, but it didn't make for a very nice stay.
This hotel is okay if you are very familiar with Charlotte, need to be near the airport, and can drive to the nearest eating establishments since the hotel's resturant is so horrible.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and the next time I'm in Charlotte I'll be staying somewhere else.
This hotel is isolated, but close to the airport and I-85 and I-77. Staff was awesome (even when I called at 2am after getting in from the race to request our next door neighbors be told to be quiet - and it worked!!!), food and bar is pricey.....nice privacy on the weekend off the main roads, extra clean hotel - lots of space in the king size room......nice pool, gym and indoor hot tub...........excellent price too! Only 20 minutes to the track (if no traffic) - not bad coming back from track once we got on I-85 south....great stay!
Better than Home
My son and I went to Charlotte for the Coca Cola 600 over Memorial Day in May of 2004 and had reservations at the Wyndham for 3 nights from Friday through Sunday. My one regret is that I wish I had signed up for the WyndhamByRequest as it includes some extra options that make your stay even more personal. The southern hospitality shown us was certainly evidenced staying here.
Our room was immaculate and stunning. The only thing missing was the kitchen sink, and we didn't need that!
From the moment we walked in the front doors until we walked out for the trip home, we enjoyed every aspect of this hotel.
The pool was inviting. The decor made us feel as if we were at home. We found the staff to be very helpful when we needed to ask them questions and they went out of their way to get the answers for us.
My other son is coming to the race this coming May 2005 and staying here for over a week because of my recommendation. I know he's going to absolutely love it and I am looking forward to his comments.
The only thing I disliked about this hotel was that we had to leave. Thanks Wyndham Garden for some wonderful memories to go along with the race.
We had stayed here before and wasn't too bad. This time was horrible.
First room they gave us the ac didn't work, phone didn't work and was filthy. We went to the front desk to complain and staff was indifferent to the problem. Asked if we really wanted somebody to fix the ac. You think? Finally offered another room, and the ac worked but someone had taken the coffee maker left the coffee, and room was even dirtier.
There were maybe ten other people in the whole hotel, so it wasn't like they were full or busy. Resturant was closed for business. If we had not already paid for room (internet) we would have left. Would not stay here ever again nor would we recommend to anyone.
