Hollywood, Schmollywood

... br>
At length the road wound up through the hills and we arrived at the J. Paul Getty Centre, which is a gigantic art museum, housed in a purpose built series of monoliths amid the verdant grounds. The museum is perched on a hill in the Santa Monica Mountains, looking over L.A. and out to sea.

We had nowhere near enough time to do justice to the whole four buildings, each of which contains different styles of Western art from the Middle Ages to the ...

Pacific Coast Highway to LA

... much of the same on the Pacific Coast Highway for free. Big Sur State Park - amazingly beautiful but a really slow drive as the roads were sketchy in parts and there had been a rock slide so we were sat for a while. If we had more time we would have liked to stop at Hearst Castle but maybe next time. The sun was low so we pulled off the road at Morro Bay to watch it set over the ocean. Back on the 101 darkness drew in, so we blasted on to Santa Barbara ...

Day 28/29: The Getty and Hollywood

... saved me from the buses! Sunday night was my last night in LA and I was going to see the friend I'd met in New York, Wendy, perform her stand -up show at Hamburger Mary's; it was a really fun night. She does a female drag act, and having written suitably entertaining songs she then performs them. Alongside her were some other good acts; we met one of them after the show, Dina Martinez who was really funny. It was a great way to round off my LA experience.

LAX...Again

... I have that in quotes as I don't feel very relaxed at all. It might be the background noise that is preventing me from that. There's an Ozzie here who is on his mobile in complete disregard for the posted signs that pretty much say no mobile phones in this particular area. There's a gaggle of kids pushing around a baby in a stroller making all sorts of racket so it isn't quite a ...

Epilogue

Well this is it, the end of living out of a bag for nearly six months. It would be a kitschly little example of my lameness to detail the exact figures of how far I traveled, how many places I visited, much money I spent, and how many people I met because that sort of objectivity is the surest way to misrepresent the true essence of such a journey. Suffice it to say that I spent enough time on planes, trains, busses, boats, and ...

LA Day Trip

... Gym for all the guys who didn't get the call to be the terminator, but hey they look good posing in their budgie smugglers, we saw the courts where they filmed white men can't jump. then off to movie stars homes, too many names to mention, then off to Hollywood. Saw the big sign, walked the walk of Fame and the Kodak Theater home of the Oscars. Noel has seen it all before but it was all new to me. Linda

Los Angeles

I started taking picture at in LA so that's where I'll start talking I guess. LAX was definitely a different experience for this country girl. It was a great experience but all in all, "Thank God I'm a country girl." People were mean and service was bad you still had to tip (one good thing about AU is you don't have to tip). I was only in LA for 2 full days and one night. The first day I just layed around and tried to take ...

... Election Education Bond Campaign. The State of Califorina has a rather extensive system of public higher education, some say it's the best in the world, to others it is a symbol of bureaucrattic excess and political pandering on the worst level. Everyone agrees that it is the model on which every other state has build their system. Me? I just work here... or sit here these days contimplating my potential new gig and my ...
