After 20 hours of planes, trains, and automobiles, we have arrived safely at our destination and can once again sleep in a horizontal position. We couldn't figure out how to use the GPS system in the Mercedes Benz rental! So grateful we had the iPad to come to the rescue. We are staying at the edge of a lake, and had dinner al fresco. I think it might we might call it gyros German style, with red cabbage and French ...

... was out with the boys. Eckard had been lined up to prepare a raclette dinner, much to the delight of young Leo. Traditionally a meal that is served with time to spare, as its a long meal, the emphasis being equally on eating and sharing time with friends and family. Our raclette dinner was no exception. Everyone tucked in, everyone talked.

The first thing we had to eat was a wedding soup then we had lots of delicious food like pork ribs baked ham and lots of salads. Then best of all was the cakes including double chocolate cake, raspberry cream cake ...

Around 90% of Hannover were destroyed during WW2 and when I saw some of
the old houses that remained untouched it really broke my heart as I
could only imagine how pretty this city must have once been.

I hope you will enjoy the (rebuilt) remains as much as I did.
