Historical Traveler Reviews Wyndham Garden Duesseldorf City Centre Koenigsallee Düsseldorf

      Not up to par

      from

I am a frequent business traveller and usually stay at hotels from the Sheraton brand. This hotel was just not up to par.

Yes - the staff was friendly, and knowledgeable.

Yes - the room seemed fairly clean.

Yes - there was an internet conenction (Wifi) available - though not for free (which is common and ok)

But, here is where my list of pro's ends.

The room was tiny - barely enough for the queen bed (for reference, I would say the size of the room was around 1/3 of a normal hotel room)

The bathroom was even tinier - NO bathtub (shower only, and could barely fit an average size person) and toilet, + a very small sink.

      The TV did not work.

The door to my room was blocked by the floor's fire door, so every time I tried to open it it would get stuck.

And even though I booked a non-smoking room, I got a smoking room with the very distinct, strong stench of smoke.

The friendly staff tried to help but did not have any other available rooms.

My understanding is that other rooms in the hotel are better, though.

If you do decide to book this hotel, make sure you check first - if it's non smoking room, far away from the ends of the hallways, and with a standard bathroom.

As a gold member of the Starwood program I am a disappointed customer.

      Excellent Value for Money

      from

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights with a group of friends on a World Cup weekend break. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were good and clean and the free soft drinks from the mini bar was a nice touch. The buffet-style breakfast was excellent. Overall this is a superb value for money hotel close to the main shopping area and not too far from the Old Town.

      Quiet hotel

      from

Stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of June in order to enjoy a short break exploring the city. We had asked for a non smoking quiet room and that is exactly what we got!

Although the room was not as big as I had expected it was ok; and the complimentary soft drinks (renewed each day) in the fridge and the tea/coffee making facilities were very welcome. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean. Breakfast each morning was excellent with an extensive buffet. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

The hotel is within walking distance of all the sights although we did buy a 24 hour travel pass for one of the days.

A very enjoyable stay and we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

      Reizendes Hotel

      from

      Lovely hotel

      from

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, very friendly and pleasant staff. Located on a side street, so very quiet yet close to bars, restaurants and shops, an ideal location. The rooms were very comfortable with nice little touches that made us feel very welcome. Can highly recommend the Maredo steak house just around the corner from the hotel. Very good value for money and nice staff. The steaks we had were excellent. We also ate at a pub called O'Reillly's in the Old Town, this was also very good Lots of pavement cafes and bars and shops galore in konigsallee, the main shopping area. Despite the rainy weather. we all enjoyed Dusseldorf and would definitely return to the Four Points At Sheraton hotel.

      Good tourist Hotel

      from

This is a good hotel especially for the tourist. Rooms are small but very clean & a free mineral mini-bar is provided which is replenished daily. Staff are very friendly & English speaking. The Buffet breakfast is very good with lots to choose from. The hotel is about 10 mins walk form the main train station, the Ko and Alstadt. The Mexican restaurant close by serves good food & can provide menu in English. If your German is not the best - best advised to bring along a phrase book to translate out whats on restaurant menus!

      Ok for the budget business-traveller

      from

Although not far away from Dusseldorfs "Konigsallee" the vicinity is a little bit strange but probably not dangerous. However, the hotel is obviously well maintained although looking at the size of the rooms and how they are located, I believe that the building (or are these actually two buildings ?) is older than it appears. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and in modern style, amenities in the bathroom are from original Sheraton-Hotel-Brand. Great plus is the included buffet-breakfast. It's not luxury but great for a good start in the business-day. Great negative is the missing availability of WLAN/WIFI/High-Speed Internet access in each room. Make sure that you do not get a smoking-room or a room near the elevator. You get a great value for your money if room-size is not a major concern.

      Happy with this hotel.

      from

Just back from a 3 night stay in this hotel. Overall found it good value for money, with friendly staff and comfortable (if small) room. Breakfast buffet was excellent and I liked the extra touches in the guest rooms - free soft drinks in the minibar and tea and coffee making facilities. There is a small bar in the reception area, which also sells bar snacks. Luisenstrasse is a side street, so not much traffic noise.

Centrally located - about a 15 minute walk from the main train station and a bit further to the Altstadt.

Highly recommend the Uerige brewery - if you like alt bier!

      Well received

      from

Considering this is an economy location of the Starwood/Arabella Sheraton group, I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly reception, the tidiness, cleanliness and practicability of this accommodation. The room was small but had everything you need for a short stay. The bathroom was almost as large as the bedroom and was well appointed. Breakfast was of the usual first class Sheraton standard. It is a hotel garni, thus it has no restaurant but the tips I received from reception on restaurants in the neighbourhood were most valuable. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the central station and easily reachable by tram or taxi.

Warm and Inviting with Friendly Staff and Great Location

      from

After a horrible start to our trip, we found the Hotel Four Points, Sheraton, Dusseldorf Central, to be warm, inviting and very comfortable. The room was extremely clean and bright with minibar (containing soft drinks and water - no alcohol). The en-suite consisted of electric shower, bath, basin and toilet.

Tea and coffee making facilities (buy some Kaffe sahne), and T.V with approx. 20 channels including MTV and CNN.

You can choose from a smoking or non-smoking floor and there is a small bar in the foyer. Be aware however that there is no resteraunt but I can highly recommend the Italian around the corner and the Thai for something different.

The staff at the Four Points were extemely helpful with 24hr. desk and multi-lingual staff. They will help and advise as much as possible. They will let you leave your luggage in a safe room as long as you need it the day of check-out (which is at 12 mid-day), and get you a taxi to the airport which is approx. 20mins and costs €20.00.

I would defineltly recommend this hotel for a buisness or holiday trip.

      Carnival in Cologne

After Trier, we headed to Cologne to see the cathedral. Cologne is a big city and we had a heck of time finding the parking and then lugging our stuff into the hotel--a little stressful :). Once we got settled, we headed straight to the cathedral. It's a bit like the grand canyon in that you can't appreciate just how big it is until you experience in person. I couldn't get far enough back to get the ...

I had a really good sleep and felt refreshed after the rather tiring first day. I had a shower (hotel showers are just amazing) then went down for breakfast, there was a great selection of food that was a help yourself buffet ranging from a full cooked breakfast to a lighter continental choice or both if you were very hungry, I opted for a cooked breakfast, very similar to a full English but the bacon was cut really thinly, almost see through, the sausages were small ...

... during my journey did speak English very well but I did notice the further out you go from the city the less English people speak, on my visit to Kaiserworth I went to a local bakery to have some lunch and it was a quite difficult to make my order understood, by using hand gestures and pointing at products on display I got what I wanted and a nice smile from the lady serving.

Time to turn in now and recharge my batteries.

The uniforms included coloured suits; navy, pale blue, tan, green and more elaborate traditional garb with cockaded hats and decorated jackets.
