... As we got up to Livermore the traffic reports were a nightmare, so we took an alternate route; a little bit out of the way, but very little traffic and quite a lovely drive. It was a long day, but considering everything we did fine, and the side issues only added about 2 hours to the trip. Arrived tired but happy.

What a small world it is; standing at the bar we met an American couple who spent 3 years in Melbourne. We swapped stories about the world's most liveable city over some glasses of chardy & pinot. So the goal today was to leave San Francisco in the rear view mirror, but the first stop was to get scheduled maintenance on Sue (the Outback), as we passed 6,000 miles for the trip over the weekend. That gave us a leisurely couple of hours to do some admin stuff, get the blog updated, and eat breakfast (we skipped the Skanksville Hotel "free" breakfast for the Putnam Subaru one combined ...
