October 24. Majesty Plaza Hotel, Shanghai.
Ah, Shanghai. Modern skyscrapers dot the skyline in Shanghai, making a huge contrast to some of the places we have visited. Yes there are still hundreds of older buildings, but it is hard to take your eyes off of the amazing new buildings.
We met Richard this morning, our Guide for today …
Today our first stop is the Shanghai Museum where we had 1 and a half hours to have a look around, could have spent longer as it was very interesting. Next stop was the Bund area then onto lunch and a silk factory where we learnt about the silk worm through to getting the silk thread then enjoying shopping in their shop.
We then venture up …
We depart at 8am for the water town of Wuzhen about 1 and a half hour drive, we see the Taoist Temple, which was the former residence of Mao Dun, a master of contemporary Chinese literature, and browse through little stores selling traditional indigo dyed, printed calico. The hotel is well located, has a lovely lobby/registration area, access to a pedestrian street for shopping. The rooms were nice and roomy. My only criticism is the bathrooms were a disappointment, cracked tile an moldy areas. They were not consistent with the rest of the hotel appearance. The staff at reception is not rude, but not friendly either, little eye contact. The servers at the buffet were very helpful and nice. I would stay there again.
