After Trier, we headed to Cologne to see the cathedral. Cologne is a big city and we had a heck of time finding the parking and then lugging our stuff into the hotel--a little stressful :). I had a really good sleep and felt refreshed after the rather tiring first day. I had a shower (hotel showers are just amazing) then went down for breakfast, there was a great selection of food that was a help yourself buffet ranging from a full cooked breakfast to a lighter continental choice or both if you were very hungry, I opted for a cooked breakfast, very similar to a full English but the bacon was cut really thinly, almost see through, the sausages were small ...

... during my journey did speak English very well but I did notice the further out you go from the city the less English people speak, on my visit to Kaiserworth I went to a local bakery to have some lunch and it was a quite difficult to make my order understood, by using hand gestures and pointing at products on display I got what I wanted and a nice smile from the lady serving.

Time to turn in now and recharge my batteries.

... 2 glasses of Alt beer were dropped on the table in front of us, 2 marks were made on our beer decal/coaster. The beer was too bitter for Barb. She preferred the Pils or Kolsch. Alt is particular to Dusseldorf. Alt is a dark beer served from wooden kegs. Kolsch is particular to Koln. It is a light, clean, light coloured beer.
