... room to change my mind.

A group of 10 crew members climbed into a cab and headed in to town for some sightseeing. The rest of the group headed to a local island, by water taxi, to go swimming in a resort pool. I had no aspirations for swimming today, I've been having fun capturing images for all of you for these blog postings.

I wandered around the bustling town for probably about an hour to an hour and half ...
Port Vila, Vanuatu tlbusterHello-
I am writing not really because I have an update, but because I can. Yesterday and today I have passed my time walking around Vila, which is an easy walk from where I am staying. In Vila I have the option to buy as many sarongs and duty free items I could ever want, but since I don't have much money I'm quickly running out of things to do downtown. The city is not very big, mostly just along a single main ...
Vila, Efate, Vanuatu linny495... affected and changed their lives. After that he drove us around some villages where everyone waved and had a smile on their face. The people here are like no nation we've ever met. They were happy and welcoming and genuinely friendly. After that we went to the Mele Maat Cascades and were left speechless at the sheer beauty of the place (yeh yeh can you imagine us speechless). We then treated Toara to dinner and he drove us up to a ...
Port Vila, Vanuatu lesandsteve... night but meant we overslept our alarm for the plane to Vanuatu - oops!! A mad dash to the airport and we made it in time to fly together. After landing we transferred to our resort and were given funky shell necklaces to wear and cold towels. Our room wasnt ready and it was tipping it down but the resort is stunning so we explored our island then headed tot Roxy's restaurant for a BBQ feast. Amazing food ...
Port Vila, Vanuatu nickiheppell... getting a little on the big side, our guide suggested it was time to leave as Mt Yassur Volcano was getting a little unpredictable. After taking one last photo I packed up all my kit & called it a day. As I did Yassur let out an almighty explosion, you could feel the Sonic Boom push you back & then the ground started to shake. The guide shouted ''we must go, NOW''. As big chunks of molten rock fell on the crater rim, ash fall out was covering us. I don't ...
Port Vila, Vanuatu moterz... letters that were sent to all of them. We had seen lots of flyers around Vila about a place called Hideaway Island not far from Vila. We decided to go there for lunch and a perhaps a snorkel. If we booked a tour from the hotel it would cost 3000 Vatu (about $30 US) per person for transportation there and the boat passage over. We decided to see if we couldn't do it less expensively by making our own arrangements. We hailed a taxi, and asked to be taken to the beach ...
Port Vila, Vanuatu joelmeeker... and I went into town to have a look around Vila in daytime, admire the views of the bay, have a quick lunch, change some money, and buy some postcards. It was quite interesting. Port Vila is not that large. The city center is mostly located along two parallel streets that run along the bay shoreline. It's hard to believe that this lazy village is the capital city of a nation. This part of town is very much geared to tourists, but that doesn't seem to have robbed it of its Melanesian ...
Port Vila, Vanuatu joelmeeker... Bars, socialise and go on day trips today when we are not working. The pace of like here is pretty casual and slow so we tend to have lots of time to hangout and do very little! Its too hot to do anything at the moment - 30 degrees plus everyday with 95% humidity. Slightly different to my usual Saturday nights in good old Clapham I now spend Saturday's at someone's party where the objective tends to be playing drinking games and eating lots of food..... Last night we ...
Luganville, Vanuatu saminpacific... bibles, like kids looking inside birthday cards, for hidden cash I suspect. Great, just what these people need - religion. The missionaries already completely wiped out the populations here - twice - once with dysentary and another time with smallpox... now with cash. The people here have the most perfect teeth in the world. The language is great - called Bislama - but a lot like English: Me Wantum Food. I want food. Oh, the x-ray machine is from 1960 probably - and unplugged ...
Tanna, Vanuatu benbethel... a chalk start and finish line, we set the athletes in their places and waited in anticipation for the creatures to come out of their shell and race?.Fraser's crab one twice in a row, he rewarded the winner with one of my smoko cookies! Maybe the salty air is getting to us, someone mentioned the other day that it is only 7 more weeks until civilization, I guess we should start mentally preparing! We went for a short journey to Epi Island, where there is a tame dugong to swim ...
