... butterflies, bees and birds were plentiful and varied. Some of the butterflies insisted on landing on the path in front of us so we had to try to avoid standing on them; they must have had a death wish! One small tortoiseshell butterfly led us along the path for a good while, seeming to land for us to catch up before leading us on again.

... of surface quality. The road was well potholed and had a few drops on either side but after a mile or so we reached a junction with a more major road which was nearly wide enough to have white paint down the middle.
We reached the Abbey safely, dropped off our walking gear and headed off to the main entrance to enjoy a cream tea at the cafe. This was a great treat at the end of our active day.

... wicket. Ian was expensive in his first three overs so I replaced Ian at his end and picked up the wicket of Whitley's overseas, caught and bowled. I only bowled the two overs as I didn't see much point in me bowling and possibly aggravating my back further. Siddall and Longhurst combined to pretty much see Whitley home until Longhurst was run out for 49 (even though he was nearly passed the stumps). It was a disappointing day but hopefully everybody ...

... continued the local life by having dinner and drinks at the George Inn (opposite the church so the whole community seemed to pour out of one building and into the other). The food was delicious and the servings generous. Even better was the feeling in the room, it was like being at a family barbecue with everybody chatting easily and children spreading their toys on the stairs. We sung Christmas carols on the way home and watched Pretty Woman. It was beginning to feel a lot like ...
