... as it rained quite heavily for a short while. Set off when it eased and soon it stopped. We really have been quite lucky with the rain today as we got to see the ravine and upper part of the valley before the mist came in and obscured it. Wind also got up a little, the first wind we have encountered on the walk, and was blowing the leaves off the trees at a rapid rate. Valley acted as a wind tunnel to some extent. ... This track is called the Brine Pipeline Trail as it follows the oldest pipeline in the world, built in the 1600's to carry the salt in the form of brine from Hallstätt to Ebensee 40km away. ... lake (Schwarzensee) at 716 m. A small and pretty lake that freezes over in winter. Trail fairly level round the lake and up to an open moor type area, then headed down through an amazing gorge that had rivers entering from all directions. Would be quite spectacular when the snow was melting in spring. Descent was very steep, but only for a short distance, then levelled out. Ended up at another lake (Attersee) at about 470m.
