10th to 12th Aug 2007 This is my last night in Chiang Mai before heading of to the border with Laos to catch the slow boat to Luang Prabang. The past few days have been a little busy. One sure thing on the Thai railways is that you won't feel too hot. Airco blows full blast the whole night long, meaning that sweltering temperatures outside are by no means felt in the carriages. This little fact I discovered when sleeping on the top bunk on the night train from Bangkok to Chiangmai last night. 22nd Nov 2005 Checked out of hotel and got collected at 8am to be taken to airport, arriving 2.5 hours early for our flight with One Two Go airlines so they booked us on to an earlier flight which arrived in Chiang Mai just under an hour after take off. 25th Nov 2005 (Contd) Eventually, we made it back to 'The Winner Inn' after a forty five minute drive back to Chiang Mai following the elephant "stroll". We put some laundry in, had a long hot shower, and slept for an hour as we had agreed to meet up with Cian, Siobhan and Maree for a "Pizza Hut" that night as we had all become sick of the fried rice. Sawadee-kha! (Hello in Thai). We are now in Chiang Mai, in the north of Thailand. We stayed at a hotel called Winner Inn and when we arrived the owner was very warm and welcoming, but a wily, crafty lady she was..she assured us that she 'take good care of us' and for us, but us only, we pay 100 baht and she put our luggage in locker instead of out like everyone else while we trek, but shhhh we no tell anybody..and she also sent us on a tour, for free, but shhhhh we no tell anybody!
