... ago. We went on the Foothills Parkway around the West side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We jumped on 321 in to Townsend and entered the GSMNP on Little River Road. We went to Gatlinburg rather than the planned stop in Pigeon Forge because of our late start and the threat of rain. Lots of Pictures- Get a feel for the road. I took I 77 west to the tunnel which crossed into West Virginia and took SR-598 to Bluefield where you see the first great vista. 598 hits 19 s to Tazweil where Rt. 16 starts, "The Back of the Dragon". Later in the afternoon we headed over to the pool to cool off a bit. It is upper 80s here but the humidity isn’t awful, so it is manageable. There is a nice breeze and the coach is mostly shaded so it isn’t too bad inside the coach.
