Just starting our second day at the Wingate in Erie. We arrived to a very clean room. I love the white bedding. It really gives me some confidence in the cleanliness.
We ordered delivery from TGI Fridays, which was pricy (no prices listed on the menu), but the delivery girl was extremely helpful and accommodating when she took my order. The food took an hour to arrive, and it wasn't super hot- but it met our needs for the evening.
We slept well in very comfortable beds with lots of fluffy pillows, and enjoyed the adjustable thermostat in the room.
My only complaints are the fact that the refrigerator was off when we arrived and it took all night- turned all the way down- to get semi cold.
Other than this- it was quiet beyond the air conditioner being rather loud when the fan kicked on, and neighboring doors seemed to slam loudly. Nothing a new sleep machine app couldn't fix. It would have actually been perfect had our MP3 alarm clock worked (the alarm button was jammed in and it would not allow me to set or turn it on.). Again- not a huge deal, tho, as we have our phones.
The TV is very nice and modern, but is limited on channels unless you purchase a package or pay $6.99+ for a movie. We hoped to use our iPad to play Netflix- but we're without USB connection. (Tho there is HDMi- I just hadn't come prepared with the proper connections.) We ended up setting up the laptop and watching Netflix on the free wifi.
This morning we enjoyed a nice continental breakfast. Everything was stocked and clean- even arriving very near the end. The selection was limited but definitely beat the granola bar and yogurt we would have had otherwise.
All and all a great experience, so far. I will definitely be staying here on future trips.

Woke up sleepy but refreshed and ready for a new fun filled day! Got hannah up and ready with 20 min to spare for breakfast. We enjoyed French toast and strawberry yogurt. Plus an awesome cup of coffee, and hannah brought some tea for later, back to the room. I laughed so hard when we got back to the room- hannah has her own card, and when the door …
... Indiana and then were absolutely floored when we had to pay $18.50 in Ohio because we were over 7' 6" high. Lucky the gas is so cheap, and the highway rest stops were very nice.
Oh, and somewhere today we crossed into another time zone - no idea where but it's later than we thought. Guess that's why it got dark so early.
... Kimmie's daughter. Our original restaurant, 1776, was closed for lunch on Saturdays, so we went to the Safari Grill. This must be the largest collection of taxidermy I have ever seen (and I've been in bars in Wyoming, so you know that's saying something). There were stuffed bears of every type, and mounted heads of almost any animal you can imagine someone shooting (and a few you can't). An elephant. Several warthogs. Deer and antelope ...
... grew up. I also get the chance to see my uncle, Bill, who I also haven't seen since 1980. A visit to my grandparents' graves is also on the agenda. My grandfather, Red, died when I was very young, and I don't remember him, but my Grandma Arlene was a constant presence when I was growing up. I didn't get to attend her funereal, so this is my chance to pay my respects to both of them.
That's all for today.
Waking up at 6 a.m. yesterday and traveling almost 30 hours, our group finally made it home safely! Driving from Toronto airport back to Erie, we made a pit stop and were all happily greeted by Moe's and an English menu! After only being on U.S. soil for less than 12 hours, I'm having a hard time processing everything and fully accepting that we will not being hopping on a train soon, led by our mother goose, ...
