... more well known Napa Sonoma area. After following country lanes, you might find yourself at someone's house. Often the tasting room is actually in the winery. In recent years, the wineries have started charging to taste, but the cost is absorbed when you buy a bottle. We spent part of the day talking to people about their wines. Being the middle of the week, we were often the only ones tasting ...
Morro Bay, California, United States travelingma... and stretch your legs.
After a lunch, we headed up the coast, stopping frequently to take pictures and walk. There are plenty of pull outs along this stretch of road. We skipped stopping in Harmony, originally a hippie commune, as it is now way too commercial. We did stop at San Simeon, below the Hearst Castle. We did not take the tour, as we have both been there several times. But the little town below is quaint with an old ...
You know that you are traveling with your 85 year old mother when she brings out all her stuff in plastic bags and on hangars! Also when she brings out her cooler and traveling food "just in case we get hungry so we don't have to eat out all the time". We loaded up the xterra and off we started. I had chosen the scenic route for the GPS and it did not disappoint. We started off heading up 14 to I5 when the GPS said turn so I ...
Morro Bay, California, United States travelingma... and drove over the mountain range on a very twisty road and ended up in Westlake village where we found a Motel 6 and a nice pizzeria where we had a Greek Lamb & Tzatziki Pizza, mmmmmm!

Cayucos, California, United States loopyl00I am not sure what has happened, but all the California State Parks are now charging the extortionate rate of $35 per night, for primitive camping sites. I think that is extremely pricey, considering that most private campgrounds charge about $40 for full electricity and water hook-ups. And just last year, the rate was only about $20-25!
The Morro Bay State Park is quite nice, but not at all what I'd expected. I’d ...
... Seals. It was really stunning, they were mostly females and juveniles, there were no adult males which was a shame as they are the most impressive but it was still an incredible sight. We watched them for a while, most were just sunbathing but the young males were practicing fighting in the sea. We arrived in Morro Bay, found a bargain hotel and took a walk down to the shore. It's ...
Morro Bay, California, United States scott_mhairiEarlier than wanted I now left San Francisco on Thursday. Due to the Internet I have found a ride to San Luis Obispo with a German guy who is going to do his Master in agricultural engineering at CalPoly. He picked me up at 9 at Jackie's with a rented car and then we drove for about 5 hours due to a lot of traffic around San Francisco to SLO. There we first went to have ...
San Luis Obispo, California, United States franzi_capoly... us, rubbing a chair. My favourite part of the castle remained what it had been as a child, the two gorgeous pools. The outdoor one is all done in white tile with a Roman colonnade surrounding it and white marble mermaids frolicking in the water. Inside the floor, diving platform and pool itself are laid with gold leaf and the blazing light standards are reflected in the dark, romantic waters. "Here the rich and famous visitors would have come after a midnight movie ...
Paso Robles, California, United States wanderlustcat... of the Water'n Hole Bar & Cafe. They came from every state and countless foreign countries. Over 10,000 of them left baseball style caps which now hang on display around the walls of the saloon. most are imprinted with logos representing States. vacation places ...
