... I only had to look at the folk in the camp site who seemed to spend all day sitting and looking out at the view. For my own part I never tired of looking out at the river and watching the comings and goings of baboons, goats and cows on the far bank and the birds swooping over the water.

At night we ate our meals on the deck under the stars and with a bottle of wine it was the perfect way to round off the day. It is amazing ...
Namibia, Kunene, Namibia justeric... Love With You. Everyone is delirious with joy over the wonderful time they have had in the park and, in particular, tonight. It appears this won’t be the last time a song or two is sung on this trip.

As we head back to our respective bungalows, the air captures different songs and tunes being sung by various members of our group as they start to retreat to their own chalet for the evening. And “a good one it twas” says the Irishman.
Waterberg Plateau National Park, Otjozondjupa, Namibia boydandrose... hectares (almost 20,000 acres).

The camp has 10 chalets and our group inhabits them all. Our chalet is very basic and consists of 2 single beds, 2 chairs with desks that double as suitcase holders. The whole complex runs on solar power.

The present camp owners entertains us with stories of the camp’s history, and the history of the country and its stormy relationship with South Africa and its current politics, while his daughter ...
Namib Naukluft National Park, Hardap, Namibia boydandroseWe headed west from Spitzkoppe to the Namibian Coastline where we were able to witness the largest seal colony in Africa. They aren't kidding about it being large. There were literally hundreds of Cape Fur Seals lying on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. This colony is one of 25 colonies along the Namibian coastline. To make it easy for viewing there is a large wooden boardwalk with information sheets along it for the tourists. We were lucky in our ...
Cape Cross, Erongo, Namibia caralyn... shape of Africa and with a bright blue zigzag going down one side and the top alight with different shades of blue shard. It was a dollar.

The rest of the trip was fairly uneventful until we pulled into our Bush Camp, which is a fancy title for a camp with no facilities (bathroom, sink, electricity, etc.). Apparently all the normal spots where Acacia (our travel company) camps were taken up, and so we toured the whole area until ...
Spitzkoppe, Erongo, Namibia claraz8... are the so called "Wild Horses" that can be seen - with a little luck - at a viewing point overlooking a water hole. Diamond Fever "Theft means you steal from us all" says the giant billboards put up by NAMDIB the diamond mining company that strictly guards a vast area of the desert know as the "Restricted Area". It was said that diamonds could be found laying in the sand but with armed patrols the usual method of theft was via the workers in the mines. On the edge of ...
Windhoek, Namibia bohemiabones... to have a great convo with both Karina and Brad, but more importantly I got to talk with a few of the locals and we did our best to travel like they did even though we could have easily afforded not to. It was a rewarding experience in the end. So Brad, Karina, and myself were dropped off on the outskirts of Swakupmund and Christine and Dani continued to the ship. Now the group was three and we headed into the town still exhausted from the night before and with no plans and no where to stay. Too be continued...
Windhoek, Namibia jpcasey... each item on a long list. How were we going to fit everything in the back of the Land Rover along with our luggage I wasn't too sure. The ground tent seemed particularly complicated and I was hoping that others had taken a bit more note than me on how it was to be erected. Andy was taken through the different driving settings on the Land Rover - high and low range and diff lock, he looked confident but I wasn't so sure. Lastly it was a quick run through on how to ...
Windhoek, Namibia jowhiting... turn of the 20th century, but they had to kill off over 100,000 natives to do it. Now it is very clean and orderly. We met a farmer who had come to town to pick up his children who were coming on the bus from school in Cape Town. It's the Easter vacation time. He introduced himself as a German even though he was born in Namibia. In fact his father was born here too. His grandfather emigrated from Germany. He has a 20,000 hector ranch on which ...
Windhoek, Namibia yoni... arrived at Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, 18 hours later at 6.30am and very pleased to get off the bus at last. We found a cafe for breakfast in a shopping centre near the bus stop and were immediately amazed at how civilized Windhoek was, after where we had been in Africa. First stop was to the tourist office to ask them to check the airport lost luggage counter for us - the answer - no our luggage was not there! The day just got worse and worse ...
