A relaxing, beautiful place to start

Everyone has been extremely accomodating & helpful to us here. Both pools are great, the swim up bar was pretty fun, but the coctails were steep compared to some out of the way spots we found while cruising the streets. The variety at the continental breakfast is super fantastic. We feel extremely safe and comfortable staying here. Not a bad spot to have as a home base while here. The only 2 things to think about are: If you want inexpensive drinks, don't get them at your hotel, head out into the streets and find yourself some deals... the other thing, go online and prebook if you want to get a deal for this hotel, we got a great room on www.asiarooms.com

A Walk On The Wild Side

... the darker the clouds became. The moment we arrived the heavens opened and we were dropped out into the open with no hope of shelter. It was like a monsoon had struck and areas had already began to flood. Cars waded through water and people went about their business as normal. Fortunately, once more the transport lords smiled upon us for a taxi appeared out of thin air. We shuffled in out of the storm and made for a nearby resort. The roads had literally turned to small rivers but ...

Odalan Pura Desa Batuan, evening

I'm back for the evening sessions. The jaba tengah is empty, but worshippers crowd the jeroan. There is a sign saying people who do not come for the prayers are not allowed inside. But since in the evening there are practically no foreigners the few of us are allowed in. We know we have to be extremely modest. To my surprise I see young boys in Baris Gde costumes, the ceremonial dance of the warrior. But first there is a sacred Rejang, albeit in ...

... to visit Pura Tanah Lot - a Buddhist temple which was build on a massive rock by the ocean. The sunset is definitely worth seeing- pure magic :) After a temple we took a walk through nearby market and the braver part of out crew (Shane obviously) decided to try kopi luwak. Entire preparation of coffee was interesting (obviously I mean making it with hot water rather that the way they got the beans..) and as an added bonus we were surrounded by cute 'coffee ...

... nice too. We have been to the beach everyday and we hired out some body boards as the waves were incredible! Body boarding was loads of fun but really tiring, pushing through the waves constantly and being near drowned on occasions. We must have stood out like a saw thumb as the Aussies, including young children, seemed so relaxed in the sea with the huge waves whereas I was constantly being taken under and surfacing looking quite dishevelled. For the 5 nights we ...

Mount Batur

... do NOT need a guide to climb Batur) and a lot of the comments said the same: beautiful place but too much ripping off.

The locals there are sitting on a goldmine and there is so much potential to improve the place. Around the lake there is only one guesthouse, it should have a lot more and turn the village of Toya in a charming little town, just like Tinta Gangga, which has even less to offer but yet you never want to ...
